Other than a trend, this is how Veganuary raises awareness about the meat industry

From a simple recipe to a greater awareness of what you bring to the table. Veganuary is much more than just a “challenge” to try plant-based eating for an entire month. Thus this now trending green initiative has an impact on the meat business, dispelling prejudices and enhancing a healthy and sustainable lifestyle

The supermarket departments are stocked with products green never seen before. The packages, with greener packaging and ingredients, catch the eye. At the checkout there are more and more alternatives similar to meat but plant-based. It has begun Veganuarythe month dedicated to plant-based nutrition and its potential is not limited to a simple dish.

With the new year, the desire to follow a healthier, more balanced and sustainable diet towards the planet is added to the list of new resolutions still fresh in ink. For others, however, it is curiosity in trying new flavors that drives them towards vegan purchases.

Thousands of people around the world choose to join Veganuary every year, taking part in what is no longer seen as a January “of sacrifices”. Born in 2014 in English Yorkshire, Veganuary promotes a green lifestyle for a monthsowing the seeds to carry forward the food choices proposed in everyday life, day after day.

But is he succeeding? And with what results? The answer is surprising. This is confirmed by research conducted at the University of Exeter. The data collected in well scientific studies by the English university have shown that the Veganuary has changed the perception of meat in those who have joined the initiative.

The numbers tell us, in fact, that as many as 81% of Veganuary 2024 participants significantly reduced their consumption of meat and derivatives, continuing to follow this type of diet in the following months. The production of meat and derivatives is seen in a different light, it is shown in its cruelty, even causing disgust. At the same time, a vegan diet appears more natural and simple to carry out.

The benefits found do not only concern the sphere of health. If over 50% of those interviewed said they had noticed an improvement in their mood, skin and having more energy, other responses given by 70% of the participants were also very interesting. The latter declared that feeling more inspired in the kitchen and “guided” in the choices of the food plan.

These incredible results demonstrate that Veganuary is much more than a one-month commitment and that participation leads to a lasting change in diet for most people. With 81% of our 2024 participants maintaining a drastic reduction in animal products six months later, it’s clear that Veganuary is driving positive change for animals, people and the Planet,” commented the international communications manager by Veganuary, Toni Vernelli.

Vegan nutrition can be intimidating, presenting itself as a “sacrifice” to dishes and flavors we grew up with, but it is anything but. With its immense potential, vegan cuisine manages to recreate unthinkable tastes without causing suffering to others.

This is one of the messages launched by animal rights organisations, which in the month of January, the month of Veganuary, provide simple advice and recipes that are accessible to everyone to change their diet.

Thus Veganuary manages not only to positively overturn the image of vegans, but to strike a blow at the meat industry, whose impact on the environment is devastating in terms of pollution but also ethics. Veganuary is much more than a trend, try it to believe it. And you, do you accept the challenge?
