On Saturday 23 May Rome raises the shutters of its civic museums after sunset, until two in the morning, for the sixteenth edition of the Night of the Museums, a now fixed appointment in the city’s cultural calendar, included in the European circuit of the Nuit Européenne Des Musées.
The extraordinary opening goes from 8.00pm to 2.00am, with last entry at 01.00am. The entrance ticket to state museums and places of culture costs one euro, without prejudice to the free admissions required by law.
What opens
The heart of the event is the Civic Museums of Rome Capital. The event is promoted by Roma Capitale, Department of Culture and Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, with the organization of Zètema Progetto Cultura.
The list of museums that will participate is long: Capitoline Museums, Capitoline Museums Centrale Montemartini, Museum of the Ara Pacis Trajan’s Markets – Museum of the Imperial Forums, Museum of Rome, Napoleonic Museum, Museum of Rome in Trastevere, Pietro Canonica Museum in Villa Borghese, Museums of Villa Torlonia (Casina delle Civette, Casino Nobile, Serra Moresca), Carlo Bilotti Museum – Orangery of Villa Borghese, Museum of Sculpture Ancient Giovanni Barracco, Civic Museum of Zoology, Museum of the Roman Republic and of Garibaldi’s memory, Gallery of Modern Art, Casal de’ Pazzi Museum, Celio Archaeological Park.
Added to these are the state museums of the Ministry of Culture, which is also participating in the event this year.
Not just visits
The 2026 edition does not end with the opening of the rooms, given that the program includes concerts, theatrical performances, screenings and cultural entertainment, selected through a public competitive notice addressed to cultural bodies, associations and societies – with a deadline set at 6 May, 12.00, for those interested in participating.
