Do you know when you open the refrigerator to look for something to eat and end up finding yourself … a beauty treatment? If the answer is no, maybe don’t frequent enough Tiktok. For some time, the platform most loved by Gen Z has elected egg whites to New Panacea for the skin: there are those who mow it carefully, those who spread it with dedication and those who stratify it with the tissue paper for a “do-it-yourself” lifting effect. All this, strictly in front of the camera.
The promise? Restricted pores, downty wrinkles, smoother and compact skin, argued acne, for what appears as a sort of magic wand, or rather a kitchen whisk.
Reality, as often happens, is a little more complicated.
The (questionable) fashion that goes crazy on Tiktok
Let’s start with him, the unaware hero: the egg white. From the basic food to the protagonist of a home skincare. The process is always the same: the yolk separates, mounted the egg white until it becomes slightly frothy, and then spread it on the face, often with the fingers or a make -up brush.

Some users, to increase the tensor effect, add two layers of tissue paper, creating a “Sandwich” mask. The result, according to them? Tonic leather, botox effect, instantaneous glow.

The question that everyone asked themselves: does it really work?
Egg white: real benefits … or presumed?
It must be said: the egg white is a source rich in proteins, in particular albumin, and contains antibacterial enzymes such as the Lisozyme. Some research see the egg as an ally for therapies responsible for skin health, others highlight their usefulness in the fight against acne (due to the antimicrobial and anti -inflammatory properties contained in the albume).
But here comes the first great misunderstanding: Eating proteins is one thing, spreading them on the face is another. Our body assimilates nutrients through the digestive system, not by osmosis through the skin. Therefore, yes, egg white can give a temporary tension effect (the famous “lifting effect” of which users speak), but has no lasting impact on wrinkles or pores. No serious clinical study has shown that the egg white on the face really reduces the signs of the time.
The risks: allergies, irritation and … salmonella
The thorniest part comes here. Apply raw egg white on the skin exposes to a series of potential problems, not exactly negligible.
The first is the risk of allergic reactions. The eggs are among the most common food allergens. Those who are allergic to their consumption should be far away from a topical use: the skin, especially that of the face, is delicate and can react unpredictablely. But even those who have never had symptoms could develop irritation or redness.
Then there is the Salmonella question. And here the tone becomes much more serious. Raw eggs can contain this bacterium, responsible for potentially serious gastrointestinal infections. There is no need to eat them: it is sufficient that the egg white is accidentally in contact with the mouth, or with a micro -lesion of the skin, to open the door to problems that go beyond an extra pimple. The risk grows if the immune system is debilitated, but it affects everyone.
We add the fact that eggslike any raw food of animal origin, they are not sterile. Thinking of treating them like a cosmetic is an evaluation error. It would never put raw chicken on the face, right? Yet, here’s a strange egg from the beauty case …
Skincare is another thing
Those who work in the field of aesthetics often repeat it: the skin must be treated with respect. Not all that is natural is automatically safe, and not everything that works in the kitchen also works in cosmetics. On the contrary.
Are you looking for simple and homemade alternatives? There are much more reliable ingredients. There oatmealfor example, is soothing and can be a good exfoliating for sensitive skin, i cucumbers they really help to deflate the eye area, while the green tea sachets cold are excellent for refreshing and calming inflammation.
Those who care about their skin should contact certified products, formulated and approved by skin experts. There are serums and creams based on hyaluronic acid, retinol, vitamin C, niacinamide, peptides and many other scientifically tested ingredients. It is not necessary to spend a fortune: just read the labels well and choose consciously.
Is it really worth it?
The egg white in the skincare is one of those fashions born by chance and amplified by social media. At times fun, at times surreal, of course, but if we look at the health of the skin with a minimum of attention, it is immediately clear that the risks far exceed the benefits.
A beautiful skin is built over time, with constancy, patience and the right allies. And maybe even with a well -made omelette … but on the plate, not on the face.
