About fifteen minutes from Parma, in the municipality of Fontanellato, a labyrinth of indescribable beauty made up of bamboo of different species, the largest in the world of its kind.
This is the labyrinth of the Masone, born in 2015 from an idea from the publisher, designer and collector Franco Maria Ricci, passionate about labyrinths from an early age. Ricci promised his friend Luis Borges, equally enchanted by the labyrinths, who sooner or later would have built one and in the 90s, thanks to the meeting with the Turin student of architecture Davide Dutto, the desire was fulfilled.
It is bamboo that has been the masters among its winding corridors, the plants used are about 300 thousand and they belong to about twenty different species. Compared to the traditional bosso, bamboo is much more resistant and grows quickly.
The route has a length of about 3 kilometers and extends for eight hectares. The perimeter is star -shaped and the central part houses a square surrounded by salons and porches, where events, exhibitions and concerts are often organized.
In the architectural complex we also find a museum, where the art collection of its creator is kept, which includes about 400 paintings, sculptures and objects dated from the Renaissance to the twentieth century. It is also possible to stay in one of the two wonderful suits, located at the center of the Labyrinth complex, and enjoy excellent dishes at the Il Labirinto restaurant By 12 monks.
