Sue Jacquot never imagined that, at 81 years old, she would open a YouTube channel nor that she would enter the world of online gaming. His story begins in 2024, not in front of a screen for fun, but in the wards of a hospital, next to his nephew Jack, 17, suffering from a sarcoma. To stay close to him and share a moment of normality, Sue decided to learn to play Minecraft, the video game Jack loved most.
What started as a family gesture turned into something bigger. Encouraged by her grandchildren, Sue started a YouTube channel called Gramma Crackers and began posting videos of her games. His first piece of content quickly surpassed 500,000 views, attracting the attention of a large and surprisingly loyal community. Within a few months the channel reached over 295 thousand subscribers, making Sue one of the most well-known granny streamers on the platform.
Fundraising on GoFundMe
Each video posted included a link to the GoFundMe dedicated to Jack’s medical care. Donations began to arrive steadily, with contributions ranging from a few dollars to much larger sums. In a short time, fundraising exceeded 45 thousand dollars, not counting the revenue generated from views on YouTube. All funds were allocated to medical expenses, easing the economic burden of the disease on the family.
The public response went beyond simple financial help. The gaming community has shown strong emotional support, sending messages of encouragement, prayers and testimonies of closeness. Sue’s family spoke of their amazement at seeing her quickly learn the dynamics of the game and manage a digital platform naturally, becoming a point of reference for thousands of users.
The most awaited update also arrived in the last few days: Jack announced that he is cancer-free. A result that does not erase the path undertaken, but which gives a new meaning to that experience that began in front of a computer. What was born as a way to be together has transformed into an online solidarity network, capable of combining technology, affection and concrete help.
