This NGO has saved over 300 animals affected by the Los Angeles fires, who arrived in terrible conditions

The fire Eaton, which devastated large areas of Los Angeleshas left in its wake a trail of destruction not only for people, but also for animalsboth domestic and wild. The NGO Pasadena Humane took charge over 300 animals affected by the fireincluding dogs, cats, and wild creatures such as macaques and peacocks.

Many of these animals arrived at the shelter with severe burns, covered in ash and suffering from respiratory problems caused by smoke inhalation. The Pasadena Humane Center, specifically the Sandra J. Goodspeed Wildlife Center, is providing intensive care to the injured animals.

Among the procedures in place are the administration of oxygen, fluids and medical treatments specific for any case. One example is Lil Man, a cat rescued from the fire area, who was found with burnt whiskers and severe burns on the paws which prevented him from walking. Thanks to the care he received, he is now on the mend.

There is also a great commitment to reuniting animals with their families

The community responded with great generosity, so much so that the shelter had to ask to temporarily suspend material donations for safety reasons. However, the organization continues to push monetary donations to be able to deal with the emergency and guarantee adequate resources for all the animals welcomed.

In addition to treating injured animals, Pasadena Humane is helping families to reunite with their pets lost during evacuations. Canelo, a dog found with burns on his paws, is one of the many animals who were able to hug their owners again thanks to the shelter’s efforts.

Pasadena Humane is working with other shelters across the state to relocate animals already at the center and focus efforts on new arrivals. The volunteers and staff they work incessantly to provide support and resources to both displaced animals and families, and to ensure that each animal affected by the fire receives the attention needed to heal and possibly find the warmth of a home again.
