Tons of aforementioned meat due to the flood, sold as if nothing had been in supermarkets in Brazil

A Brazilian police survey discovered a serious food fraud: 800 tons of meat contaminated by the floods that ended up for sale, as if nothing had happened, for human consumption. A serious risk to public health

Do you remember the flood that devastated the Rio Grande do sul Brazil in May 2024? A natural disaster that caused the death of over 150 people and hit about 2 million inhabitants, leaving thousands of homeless families and entire communities on their knees.

Well, while the country struggled to face the consequences of this tragedy, some tried to take advantage of it illegally. Four individuals were arrested for purchasing 800 tons of beef contaminated by the waters of the flood in Porto Alegrewith the declared intent to produce animal feed. But according to the investigation, it didn’t go like this.

The meat has in fact been resold to other companies, with the ultimate goal of passing it as a meat suitable for human consumption, creating profits above 1,000% and putting at risk the health of consumers throughout Brazil.

Among other things, as the superintendent of the health surveillance of the State of Rio, Helen Keller Barreto said:

All meats that have undergone any flooding process must be discarded and cannot be used for any purpose, not even as animal feed, since they represent a high risk for the health of the population, both human and animal.

The discovery took place when a company, which had purchased meat from Tudo Temps, noticed the number of lot on the package and reported the meat as non -compliant. This has started investigations, which revealed the transport of march meat on dozens of trucks intended for various regions of the country.

The 800 tons of meat, which remained under water for days, were sold by a pack of meat packaging in Canoas, a city near Porto Alegre, at the Tem of Tudo Salvados Companylocated in Três Rios, in the Rio de Janeiro region.

According to what emerged from the investigations, Tem of Tudo had purchased the meat with the intention of transforming it into animal feed, but instead he resold it to several companies. The authorities discovered that, to conceal the origin of the meat, this had been washed, again labeled, and even mixed with top quality meat imported by Uruguay.

The police, after discovering the food fraud, carried out searches and kidnappings in various places, including the supermarket associated with the company, where a picanha meat package from the Canoas plant was found.

The police are now trying to trace where the rest of the meat load was over. The authorities asked all the companies involved to report any suspicious goods and to proceed with its immediate destruction, to avoid further risks to the health of the population. Meanwhile, Tudo Salvados Temp has refused to comment on the story.

What shocks in all this is that we took advantage of a similar tragedy, as pointed out by the delegate Wellington Vieira:

We were surprised because the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul was a tragedy that shaken the whole country and we think people should have a minimum of respect. It is sad to see that a human being is capable of such an act.
