Wild boars shot dead in a public park, barbarism in the Pescarese area

Killed by rifle shots in a green area very popular with residents, with all the risks associated with this barbaric action. Three wild boars died in the Parco della Libertà di Montesilvano, Pescara, in one completely avoidable bloody execution.

Once identified, the three ungulates were shot down by a team of operators, who, according to local media, opened fire and invited those in the park to move away.

The affair sparked great indignation. The image of a wild boar collapsed on the ground in its blood continues to circulate on social media. This is denounced by environmental and animal protection associations, who accuse the authorities of not having taken into consideration any alternative strategy.

It was possible to sedate the wild animals to remove them from the town, guaranteeing their safety and that of all the citizens in the park. Instead killing was the solution, once again, acting with cruelty.

For WWF Abruzzo this is not an isolated case, but a problem that has already been brought to the attention of the municipal administration and which will recur. Other wild boars would have been eliminated with these dynamics.

The latter three would have sneaked into the Parco delle Libertà by passing through a damaged fence, already reported. Furthermore, poor waste disposal management was found nearby.

All these elements end up attracting wild boars to urban centers, but they only leave dead. The LAV, the Anti Vivisection League, also intervened in the first killing of a wild boar in Montesilvano. The specimen had not shown any dangerous behavior, but was still killed.

The presence of wild boars in Montesilvano is certainly nothing new, evidently they are attracted by food sources that are not properly managed. It would be better for the municipal administration to focus on this issue in order to prevent the approach of wild boars, instead of sending innocent animals to their deaths, also putting the safety of citizens at serious risk” said Rita Capranica, LAV manager of Pescara.

The association is preparing a complaint for the incident.
