Wind turbines installed on mobile containers to make the German port of Emden more sustainable.
Being able to reduce the impacts of infrastructure, transport and hub for logistics is one of the most important challenges of the ecological transition. There are numerous initiatives that are rising. A few weeks ago is the announcement of Solar Farm inaugurated in Fiumicino, the largest airport photovoltaic system in Europe, with an initial capacity of 22 MWP and an expected expansion of up to 60 MWP, which will reduce the CO₂ emissions of the airport of 11,000 tons per year. Even in Sweden, in the logistics and transport center DSV in Landskrona, the largest photovoltaic installation on the roof in the Scandinavian countries was created.
To reduce the environmental impact of the ports, in the western port of Germany and the main center of the Eastern Frisian, wind turbines have been installed containerthat is, place diagonally on a standard container. In addition, the container is equipped with photovoltaic panels, storage batteries and an infrastructure for recharging electric vehicles. The turbines and poles of the turbines are made with light and robust composite materials.
The project is part of the European Interreg Redii Ports program, focused on the energy transition of maritime ports, which covered 60% of investment costs. The plant can generate over 45,000 kWh per year.
The wind is not lacking in EMden, and these containers represent the ideal solution. Already in the first weekend after installation, the production of the plant energy exceeded expectations, providing electricity to the main gate of the port and the lighting of the parking lot. In case of surplus, excess energy is introduced into the national electricity grid.
Considering everything that the system offers, it is like the Swiss knife among the wind farms: it makes the most of the technical and economic possibilities, it is simple to implement and at the same time profitable
Thomas Tröster, head of the electrotechnical team at Niedersachsen Ports (Nports) says in Emeden.
The plant was built by Flowgen, a Swiss technological company, which is said to have been honored to have installed the Green Center Mobile in the port of Emden, for what they expect will become a project from the pioneering role in the sustainable energy supply of ports and others Infrastructure.
