“2024 will certainly be the first year above 1.5°C and the warmest ever”, the Copernicus warning

The new catastrophic verdict from Copernicus comes out just a few days after the start of the COP29 work in Baku, Azerbaijan: 10 months into 2024, it is now virtually certain that 2024 will be the warmest year on record and the first year with more than 1.5ºC above pre-industrial levels.

This is what we read in the latest bulletin from the European climate change monitoring service.

The average global temperature anomaly for the first 10 months of 2024, from January to October – writes Copernicus – was 0.71 degrees higher than the 1991-2020 average: it is the highest ever recorded for this period, and 0.16 degrees higher than the same period in 2023.
