The heart of gold of the “Viking” Erling Haaland: sends a letter and the Norway shirt to the family of a little fan who died at 6 years old

The world of football is currently focused on the 2026 World Cup, a competition which sees the return of the Scandinavian national team to the world championship stage for the first time since 1998 and which is preparing to face England on Saturday 11 July at 11pm Italian time for a match that qualifies for access to the semi-finals.

Everyone talks about his records on the field, his millimeter nutrition or his glasses with special lenses to optimize sleep. Yet, behind the powerful Viking look and the unstoppable goal machine that terrorizes opposing defenses, lies a heart of gold. Erling Haaland has in fact demonstrated extraordinary sensitivity in the face of a tragedy that has shocked the entire Scandinavian community.

The drama of Dennis Skjorestad and the mourning in Jæren

The incident took place in the municipality of Time, in Jæren, in the county of Stavanger, the very places where the attacker grew up. A six-year-old boy, Dennis Skjorestad, was tragically hit by a car in a residential area. The driver did not stop, committing the crime of failure to assist; a dramatic event which in a safe country like Norway has sparked unprecedented media coverage and indignation. Little Dennis was a huge fan of the bomber jacket, he ran everywhere wearing the Manchester City or national team shirt and dreamed of one day walking on the football pitch just like his idol.

A special letter to break the silence of pain

Once they learned the heartbreaking news, the center forward and his parents, father Alfie Haaland and mother Gry Marita Braut, wanted to make their closeness felt to the family of the very young victim. They sent an official national team shirt to the child’s home with a letter of condolence attached. The little boy’s parents, Thomas Skjorestad, Mathias and Tiril, received this touching message:

Dear parents, Mathias and Tiril, our deepest condolences to all of you following the passing of Dennis. As parents and siblings, it is impossible for us to truly imagine what you are going through, but please know that our warm thoughts are with you at this difficult time. We understood that Dennis loved football. That’s why we wanted to send you this. Best regards. The Haaland family.

Dad Thomas then published the photo of the gift on Instagram, writing:

You gave us goosebumps like never before, and if Dennis were here he would be so proud. Erling you were his idol, so thank you very much.

The attacker then added publicly:

It is impossible for us, as parents and siblings, to fully understand your situation, but know that, like many others, we are close to you.

During the funeral, the entire community rallied around the family to the tunes of Sammen for Norgethe tune that Dennis loved to dance to and sing.

The choice of a double surname and Google’s digital tribute

In addition to gestures of solidarity, the champion is making headlines for a new identity on his back. During the World Cup the bomber is presenting himself as Erling Braut Haaland, legally integrating his maternal surname in accordance with a widespread Scandinavian tradition. A winning choice given that he is among the most loved footballers of the World Cup.

And to demonstrate how they are crazy about Norway in this period and even the most famous search engine in the world took care of it and wanted to contribute to this wave of enthusiasm. In fact, typing his name in the search bar activates an interactive Easter egg: a graphic animation on the display inspired by the famous Viking Row celebration, the group row that has become one of the most iconic symbols of this summer’s football event.
