The monstrous fishing vessel “Annelies-Ilena”, symbol of industrial fishing, “must be stopped”. The appeal of the associations

Seeing it like this it is truly a monster, with its 144.6 meters long and 24 meters wide. It is the “Annelies-llena”, one of the greatest fishing boats trawling the world catching fish destined to be transformed into surimi.

Owned by P&P, a Dutch multinational, this destructive device nicknamed the “hell ship” by the fishermen of Mauritania, is able to splunder up to 400 thousand kg of fish a day with its nets measuring the equivalent of two Eiffel Towers. And it even has permission to operate with impunity in Marine Protected Areas.

Starting next week this monster of the seas will once again begin its fishing campaign in European watersleading to the (legal) devastation of large areas such as the Bay of Biscay side, which is home to thousands of dolphins and splendid biodiversity.

How come? It’s easy to say and there are interests here too cheap they are the masters. Fabrice Loher, the new French Minister of the Sea and Fisheries, allows this, despite scientific recommendations and climate warnings. Such a capacity for destruction in the face of such fragile ecosystems is an absolute tragedy with irreversible consequences.

We cannot allow such a massacre to occur – say the Bloom Association. With PleineMer, BretagneVivante, Allark, Seastemik and Mor-Glaz, we sent a letter to Fabrice Loher, asking to oppose this monster of the seas.
