Italian destinations in the New York Times list
The Dolomites
The Dolomites occupy the 15th position on the New York Times list thanks to their extraordinary natural beauty, which makes them one of the most fascinating mountain chains in the world. This year, their popularity has further increased thanks to the introduction of the Retic Way (or via Ratea), a new 170-kilometer hiking circuit that crosses the regions of Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto. This path, which winds through breathtaking landscapes, allows visitors to completely immerse themselves in nature, exploring mountain panoramas, picturesque villages and local traditions in a unique experience for outdoor lovers.
In 45th place we find the Sicily divides Cycle Route, a 460 kilometer cycle path that crosses Sicily from Trapani to Catania. This path, created during the pandemic, offers a sustainable and authentic way to discover the island, far from traditional tourist destinations. Route winds through a variety of landscapes ranging from the breathtaking coasts to picturesque mountain villages, passing through vineyards, historical villages and unique cultural sites. A journey that blends nature, history and local traditions, making Sicily an ideal destination for those looking for a genuine travel experience and contact with the daily life of the island.
Milan
Milan, the Italian capital of fashion and design, has earned 49th place in the list, confirming itself as one of the most dynamic and influential destinations in the country. The city is a point of reference for art, design and culture, and this year it is preparing to host one of the most relevant cultural projects in view of the 2026 Winter Olympics: the Great Brera.
