Flooded kennel in Emilia-Romagna: heart-warming solidarity race

In Bologna and the Bolognese area, rain and floods of the rivers have swept away the serenity of the residents, sowing fear and death. A boy died on the day when a red alert was issued due to particularly critical weather conditions.

The damage is visible everywhere, even in the kennels devastated by meters of mud. In Sasso Marconi, in the metropolitan area of Bologna, the “Il Vagabondo” kennel raised the alarm. Their dogs were submerged in that mud and one of them was recovered lifeless.

In the face of all this devastation, in the face of the pain and the sense of helplessness, the people’s generosity has not waned. On the contrary. A desperate appeal launched by volunteers through social media has reached the hearts of many in a solidarity race to help the four-legged friends.

In a very short time, the Sasso Marconi kennel received the availability of suitable means to clear the streets of mud and debris, offers of stalling and other forms of aid. There were so many requests that the staff apologized for not being able to respond to all the people who sent private messages.

The following update is a thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the support received during the emergency. The access roads, such as the Kennel “Il Vagabondo” he writes, “have been partially cleared of mud”.

All the dogs were secured, all except one. Carlina, a small disabled dog, didn’t make it and died in those terrible hours that brought the shelter to its knees. The other dogs were recovered with water reaching their chests, but there was nothing that could be done for her.

One will be launched in the next few days fundraising to provide for the maintenance of the animals. It is also likely that the structure that hosted them until now is no longer usable. We will still need people’s support in the near future.

The avalanche of water that folded Emilia-Romagna in two also brought destruction to other refuges. The nightmare has also returned for the cats of the Pianoro Feline Oasis, who once again find themselves having to deal with the fury of a flood and increasingly high water levels.

Since all the roads were blocked, the volunteers monitored the cats on cameras. Here too there is a lot of damage caused by the mud, but the cats are all fine and that’s what counts.

There will be a lot of work to do to recover the Pianoro feline oasis and the many small and large entities in the animal rights world are in the same situation and they really need help. Let’s not forget about them.
