Easter is now close, and it is nice to involve even the little ones in waiting for this spring holiday with activities to be done together. Among the funniest activities there is certainly that of coloring and decorating chicken eggs to embellish the Easter table.
There are many methods to paint egg shells naturally, using waste such as onion peels or cabbage waste (as we explained in this article) or using painting.
But did you know that it is possible to change the color of the firmed albume, and eat colorful eggs? Let’s see how to do it in a simple way.
How to color hard eggs
In this article we explain how to color hard eggs without resorting to synthetic dyes, but using three ingredients that are certainly already at home: spinach, turmeric and beets.
The former will make our green eggs, while the second will give a beautiful intense yellow color; Finally, the beetroot will make our dark pink eggs.
We start by firming the eggs as usual, putting the eggs in a pot with cold water and bringing them to a boil; Then we count eight or nine minutes from the beginning of the boiling and then turn off the fire.
We jump the eggs under cold running water to block the cooking process and to peel them without burning your hands.
Meanwhile, we prepare the “dyes” that will color our eggs. For the green colorwe can use fresh or frozen spinach, which we will cook in boiling water as indicated on the package. We blend the spinach with the immersion blender, adding a little water to create a rather liquid mixture.
As for the pink colorwe use pre -cooked beets (they are found in all supermarkets): also in this case, whisk one of medium -sized one by adding a little water to make the mixture more fluid.
The preparation of the yellow coloring It is the simplest: just melt a few tablespoons of turmeric powder in a little water.

We just have to immerse the hard -boiled eggs in the three newly prepared liquids, making sure they are completely covered by the color. Let the eggs rest in the dyes for a few hours (at least three).
After this time, take out the eggs and swell them under running water: we can observe that they changed color according to the substance with which they were in contact.

What to do with waste
We got fantastic colorful hard -boiled eggs with which to enrich the Easter buffet. But throwing away the liquid we used to dye the eggs would be a real waste.
We can use spinach and beetroot smoothies to enrich the color and vitamins of the excellent smoothies for breakfast or snack – the important thing is to keep the liquid in a jar with airtight closure and consume it as soon as possible.
Instead, we can use the liquid with turmeric to naturally dye a shirt or a piece of fabric, as we explained to you in this article.
